Bullguard is a robust security suite that covers all the basics. It’s not quite as feature-rich as the competition but it’s a great option for users looking to get a little more from their antivirus software. It’s also efficient with resources by avoiding the burden of heavy load on your system, while providing a variety of options to reduce it when it is needed.
The program opens to a hub-like application which has a tiled layout for its various modules, including antivirus, firewall and PC tune-up game booster, and home network scanner. The “Vulnerabilities section will alert you about issues such as missing Windows updates autostart service, as well as open ports. Gamers will find the “Game Booster” feature helpful, since it will detect when you’re playing and automatically optimize your system.
In our tests, bullguard was quite effective in blocking malware infections. It also was relatively light on system resources in comparison to other products in terms of CPU use. However we did notice the background processes used by the antivirus took up a significant amount of RAM, especially on systems with a limited amount of memory. In high-resolution screens the hub app looked to be pixelated.
Bullguard’s Premium Protection subscription comes with an app for mobile devices that offers parental controls, antitheft, and basic backup capabilities to your tablet or smartphone. Despite this, the app isn’t a lot and doesn’t offer essential features, such as security for your webcam or file shredders. The only way to contact assistance via phone is via live chat or email.
